Disney’s Cruella
This work covered several areas of CFX, with my main focus on grooming, look development, hair simulation, and rendering.
The goal was to create a VFX hair replacement for a real character, so the digital groom had to match the appearance, style, and behavior of the original hair as closely as possible across different shots and conditions.
One of the key challenges was maintaining continuity and consistency between shots where the character used real hair and shots where the hair was replaced with a CG version.
The workflow needed to be stable enough to reuse the same groom, simulation setup, and look-development approach across multiple shots while still allowing shot-specific adjustments where necessary.
For shots with relatively subtle character motion, I was sometimes able to reuse or adapt existing simulation caches, which helped improve production efficiency and iteration speed without rebuilding every simulation from scratch.
The main challenge was balancing quality, consistency, and production efficiency, while keeping the digital hair as close as possible to the real character hair in both appearance and motion.
